Michael O'Toole at The REACH (map)

Shapes, Values, Intensity, Gradation, Color, use of Transparents, Acrylic techniques & much more will be touched upon. As painting is visual, the importance of demos is utmost, and there will be as many demos as needed or wanted, starting with one each day in the morning.

MICHAEL O'TOOLE, S.F.C.A., is a native of British Columbia, born in 1963. He studied architectural design at a technical institute, then worked with firms in that field. In 1991, he won a prize for "Best Home Design." Later, painting became Michael's all-consuming passion. As an artist he paints mainly impressionistic acrylics with landscape, seascape and architecture as his chief subjects.

PORTRAITS with DAVID GOATLEY at The REACH (map)

Painting portraits is always a challenge, breaking it down into basic drawing, proportion, tone, form and then on to colour on our second day with demos every step of the way. David will show you how it can be done.

David Goatley, SFCA is widely recognized as one of North America’s leading portrait painters. Originally trained in London, England, where he was born, David has completed over 300 portrait commissions all across the continent since arriving here with his family in 1992.

September 12th, 2019 from  10:00 AM till 4:00 PM

In this two day workshop we will discuss the fundamentals of painting including composition, value, edges, colour, and the benefits and drawbacks of using photos. Jerry will offer group and one-on-on instruction as well as a painting demonstration and valuable insight into what he has learned over the years.

Please bring your painting supplies including a few small painting panels or canvases (about 9×12", 10×12", 11×14" size) and a few photos of images you would like to paint.

Jerry's instruction will focus on landscape painting. He paints in oils but the principals he teaches apply to any medium.

DRAWING WORKSHOP with SUZANNE NORTHCOTT at The REACH (map)

June 12th, 2010 from 1:00 PM till 4:00 PM
June 13th  2010 from  10:00 AM till 4:00PM

In this one and a half day workshop Suzanne will take you through several drawing exercises designed to help you develop your ability to perceive and to render your observations more accurately. Working from life, we will work with line quality, values, negative shapes, foreshortening, pattern and hatching, using both pencil and pen. Learning to draw is a joyful practice that requires few materials and the progress you can make in a short time may inspire you to make drawing a daily practice.

April 10th, 2010: Drawing with Loreena Lee (2 to 3 hours)

Concentration will be on space, shape, relationships and value contrasts. There will be a short intro into what to look for, field work, then critique and problem solving.



 

March 13th, 2010: Photographing your Art with Michael King

Learn the basics of using your digital camera to document your work for personal use or for online submissions.
