Supply List for Acrylic Workshop

List of Equipment & Supplies

Note those with asterisk* are “Very Important”!

EQUIPMENT:

Easels, spray bottle, garbage bags, newspaper/plastic to cover tables, palette knife,

Sponge or paper towels for clean up, water containers, sketch pad, pencils and sharpies(black felt tip pens) in a variety of sizes for thumbnail sketching.

PALETTE:

A ROBERT E. WOOD PALETTE can be taken flat in the car. It has 24 deep wells and a lid that keeps the paints moist and ready for painting any time!

I use a roll of Tin foil for a Palette (cost effective and reusable..much better than a tear away palette ) for an endless amount of space to mix on.

BRUSHES

I use the following:

1. GOLDEN WASH BRUSHES” from OPUS they are good & inexpensive -Sizes 1”,1.5”& above* I can’t live without these! They are great for transparent washes & are very soft flexible & you can use them on edge or flat!

2. Firmer, Synthetic flat (square-edge)Brushes…BRIGHTS..(shorter bristles)- ½”to 1”and larger!.

3. Small, synthetic W/C brushes that come to a nice point, also liners( Rigours) & whatever other brushes that you already have that you may want to use!

NOTE -Lesser # of brushes and a good quality is better than the reverse.

PAINTING SURFACES At least 2

STRETCHED CANVAS…I prefer to paint on a larger canvas 16 x 20 or larger & square is fun to paint on as well!  *Canvas board or primed doorskin ( veneer) or primed masonite, (It is quite heavy)!

MEDIUM & VARNISH

1.GOLDEN (preferred)ACRYLIC “GLOSS” Medium- for sealing and isolation coat!

2.GOLDEN POLYMER UVLS “GLOSS”VARNISH for the final top coat!.

OPAQUE/SEMI OPAQUE” ACRYLIC PAINTS

NOTE:This list below with * are very important!

*Titanium White ( large tube)

*Cad yellow,(Lt, Med. & Deep)

*Yellow ochre or Raw Sienna (or both)

* Cadmium Orange and/or-SEE BELOW! Cadmium Orange “Hue”( Soft body/Fluid)

*Ultramarine Blue or Cobalt Blue

* Cadmium red(med or light)

The following colours are very useful- *I use them a lot!-Not mandatory but very nice to have!

Liquitex -2oz jars Soft body “Preferred”..or 2oz tubes,..not as fluid!

*Cadmium Orange (Hue), Brill. Aqua green,, Brill Purple, Med. Magenta,

Light Blue Violet, and Light blue Permanent.

TRANSPARENT” ACRYLICS “MUST HAVE & *Very Important!"

NOTE: ALL Quinacridones , Pthalos & Dioxazine are TRANSPARENT! AND: “Acra ,or Quinacridone” on a tube of paint or when referred to as such, all mean the same..It is just a different name for different brands!

*Quinacridone Red (in Stevenson) Or in Liquitex..Acra Crimson (*Transparent PINK)

*Quinacridone Red Lt.(Golden)

*Nickel Azo Yellow (Golden) NOTE:-Different than *Quinacridone / Nickel Azo Gold (below)

*Quinacridone / Nickel Azo Gold

*Quinacridone Burnt orange

*Pthalo Blue, *Pthalo Green (the only green required)

*Dioxazine purple

*Bring any other favorite Acrylic paints that you may have !
